Swarts School
The first Swart School stood on Rt 19 about 1/10 of a mile south of the intersection with Ten Mile Rd. The building was lined with locally made bricks between the studding. The second building, built around 1907/1908, stood on the hill across Rt 19 about 200 yards northwest of the first building. The second building was built by William Blair of Waynesburg for approximately $600, including a slate roof and desks. The cut stone for the foundation was from a house that stood near the school location in about 1842. This building closed in August 1931 when children moved to the Amity School. In the 1970’s a mobile home owned by Terry Cox was located where the second school had been.
